Writing
Each question carries equal marks. Candidate answers are assessed with reference to the content, organisation and cohesion, range of structures and vocabulary, register and format, and target reader indicated in the task.
Use of English
Parts 1 and 2: each correct answer receives 1 mark. Part 3: each correct answer receives 2 marks. Part 4: each correct answer receives up to 2 marks. Part 5: questions 40–43, each correct answer receives 2 marks. For question 44, there are 14 marks available: up to 4 marks may be awarded for content and up to 10 marks for summary writing skills.
Listening
Each correct answer receives 1 mark.
Speaking
Candidates are awarded a mark for each of six criteria: 5 analytical and 1 global.
For each of the papers, the mark you are awarded is weighted to a mark out of 40 in this way:
Your score × 40 ÷ maximum number of possible marks.
This gives each paper in the examination equal importance. The weighted marks for each paper are then added together to give an aggregate score, and it is this score on which the grade is based.
An overall grade of A (80% +), B (75% - 79%) or C (60% - 74%) represents a pass
